LECTURE BY ŽELJANA ZOVKO, CROATIAN REPRESENTATIVE IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

On May 26th 2023, as part of the Friendship in May series of events, our Faculty was visited by Željana Zovko, representative of the Republic of Croatia in the European Parliament.

Ms. Zovko, who has many years of experience in foreign affairs and diplomacy, delivered a lecture on the subject of Women in leadership positions: experiences from foreign policy and diplomacy. Željana Zovko became a member of the European Parliament in 2016. In the European Parliament, Zovko is the vice-president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and acts as the deputy coordinator for foreign affairs of the EPP. She is also a member of the Committee on Culture and Education and the Subcommittee on Security and Defense. She is a member of the Working Groups for the Western Balkans and for external financial instruments, as well as a member of the Delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, the Delegation for relations with the United States of America and the Delegation for relations with the European-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat).

Before entering the European Parliament, Zovko had a rich diplomatic career. She was ambassador to France, Spain and Italy and non-resident ambassador to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Monaco, Andorra and Malta. At the time, she was also a permanent representative at UNESCO, WTO, IFAD, FAO and WFP. Zovko holds a BA in French language and literature from the University of North London.
