SCIENTIFIC-RESEARCH ACTIVITY OF THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES IN SPLIT

Scientific research is a key segment in the work of a higher education institution. Since its founding, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split has aimed to foster scientific and research productivity, which is a foundation for high-quality teaching as well as scientific and professional advancement. As one of the main pillars of the development of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, scientific research, among other things, enables the interconnection of various scientific disciplines and encourages cooperation with other scientific institutions in the country and abroad.

Since the founding of the Faculty in 2005, its researchers have participated in a number of national and international projects, as well as in other forms of professional cooperation in the country and abroad. The research framework of the Faculty is not limited to providing support for the teaching and pedagogical process, but it also includes research work that is of national importance because it contributes to the acquisition of knowledge on Croatia, its culture, history and literature. Research conducted at the Faculty contributes to the development of humanities and social sciences in the country and abroad.

Today, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split has over 140 scientists, many of whom participate in national and international projects, as well as the editorial boards of various journals. Results of their research are evident in numerous scientific articles, monographs, university textbooks and other publications.

In addition, the Faculty has developed its own publishing, which includes the following serial publications in the A1 category: Školski vjesnik - a journal for pedagogical theory and practice and the Journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. Students of the Faculty are also active in the field of publishing, with two student publications: The Split Mind - multilingual journal of literature and culture; the Humanist - journal of students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split and Pleter - journal of history and art history students.

A long-term strategy for scientific development is established as a necessary backbone of the scientific production of the Faculty. In this regard, the following measures were taken: the Committee for Research Activity was established, "the body of the Faculty that cares for and supervises research activities of the Faculty, promotes and encourages research activity and professional advancement of researchers, and defines the necessary evaluation criteria for research excellence and guidelines for the development of research activities of the Faculty in the form of the Strategic Plan for Scientific Research 2021 - 2025.

Seventy-first: The Rise and Fall of the Croatian National Reform Movement - promotion of the book by Ivo Banac, Ph.D.

Promotion of the book written by Ivo Banac, Ph.D., entitled Seventy-First: The Rise and Fall of the Croatian National Reform Movement (Croatian State Archives, Zagreb, 2021) will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 12.00 on the ground floor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, Poljička cesta 35.

The following speakers will talk about the book: Aleksandar Jakir, Ph.D., Full Professor, Mladenko Domazet, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Andrea Feldman, Ph.D., Associate Professor. Josip Vrandečić, Ph.D., Full Professor will lead the program.

The book by Croatian and American professor Ivo Banac about the Croatian Spring represents his last work, which, unfortunately, due to the author's untimely death, remained unfinished. Although three of the imaginary eight chapters have been completed, the book as such is worth the entire library. In the book, the author incorporates his youthful memories of the events he directly witnessed as a Fulbright Scholar in Zagreb, his lifelong involvement in the communist movement and his full scientific maturity and strength emanating from its pages. He pointed out in the introduction that the book was not written only for our time and that every writing about the seventy-first is also an invitation to think about how much the accumulations of the communist regime are still present in our society. It is mentally complete, because it perceives historical phenomena from the perspective of the social elite; in this case: Tito, Croatian reform communists, the student movement and international politics. The completed parts were written on the basis of first-class sources from the Cabinet of the President of Yugoslavia and the party legacy from the Croatian State Archives. One of the main thesis is that the Croatian Spring is the base without which a reflection on independence would not be possible. Although unfinished, it offers a model of how to write a historiographical work and represents the author's will to the Croatian people.
