SCIENTIFIC-RESEARCH ACTIVITY OF THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES IN SPLIT

Scientific research is a key segment in the work of a higher education institution. Since its founding, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split has aimed to foster scientific and research productivity, which is a foundation for high-quality teaching as well as scientific and professional advancement. As one of the main pillars of the development of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, scientific research, among other things, enables the interconnection of various scientific disciplines and encourages cooperation with other scientific institutions in the country and abroad.

Since the founding of the Faculty in 2005, its researchers have participated in a number of national and international projects, as well as in other forms of professional cooperation in the country and abroad. The research framework of the Faculty is not limited to providing support for the teaching and pedagogical process, but it also includes research work that is of national importance because it contributes to the acquisition of knowledge on Croatia, its culture, history and literature. Research conducted at the Faculty contributes to the development of humanities and social sciences in the country and abroad.

Today, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split has over 140 scientists, many of whom participate in national and international projects, as well as  the editorial boards of various journals. Results of their research are evident in numerous scientific articles, monographs, university textbooks and other publications. 

In addition, the Faculty has developed its own publishing, which includes the following serial publications in the A1 category: Školski vjesnik - a journal for pedagogical theory and practice and the Journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. Students of the Faculty are also active in the field of publishing, with two student publications: The Split Mind - multilingual journal of literature and culture; the Humanist - journal of students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split and Pleter - journal of history and art history students.

After the re-accreditation procedure of the Faculty in 2014, it was established that a long-term strategy for scientific development is a necessary backbone of the scientific production of the Faculty. In this regard, the following measures were taken: the Committee for Research Activity was established, "the body of the Faculty that cares for and supervises research activities of the Faculty, promotes and encourages research activity and professional advancement of researchers, and defines the necessary evaluation criteria for research excellence and guidelines for the development of research activities of the Faculty in the form of the Strategic Plan for Scientific Research 2021 - 2025.

The 2022 edition of the European Researchers' Night kicks off with the Blue-connect project activities

A series of workshops designed as part of the EU-funded project Blue-connect took place on Monday, June 20th, in the Meje Elementary School in Split. The workshops were organized by the University of Split, and this year they were also officially part of the European Researchers' Night.

The aim of the workshops was to teach elementary school children about the importance of sustainable life and eco-friendly economic development, with focus on the protection of biodiversity and renewable energy sources. The youths of today must take an active role in fighting against the adverse effects of the global climate change, by choosing sustainable lifestyles in harmony with nature, all for the greater goal of preserving our common home for future generations.Professors of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split (Ivana Restović, Suzana Tomaš, Mila Bulić, Vesna Kostović Vranješ), Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology in Split (Ivana Vrca, Nives Vladislavić, Irena Krešić, Maja Biočić, Josip Radić) and Faculty of Science (Nives Kević) led a series of creative activities for seventh-grade pupils: Nature and I, two friends (The impact of acid rain on the food we consume every day), "Renewable energy sources", "Acid rain” and “Greenhouse effect”.

After the workshops, the students enthusiastically played a knowledge quiz. 

At the very end of the project activities, we came to the conclusion: By caring for the Earth, humanity can and should change the course of events! By caring for the environment, we care about us and future generations.
