Description:
The course studies the development of American literature from its early beginnings, i.e. from colonial through Puritan literature up to the present day. A particular attention has been paid to American Renaissance as well as to the era of realism and naturalism as some of the most famous American writers and poets were writing during that period. Although the primary goal of the course is the survey of American literature and the most important American authors, the course also deals with ethnic/multicultural literature of the U.S. as well as women writing.

Learning outcomes:
  1. Upon the completion of the course students will be able to:
    1. Demonstrate the knowledge of main literary periods, works and authors in American literature.
    2. Explain basic facts, theories and principles of the mentioned area.
    3. Analyze and interpret selected literary works.
    4. Compare and evaluate the mentioned periods and works of American literature.
