General information about the program: |
Department of Croatian Language and Literature has been an important part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, since its foundation. By the establishment of the Department of Croatian Language and Literature Split, as the birthplace of Marko Marulić, father of Croatian literature, and a city of great cultural and historic importance, has gained an institution whose primary purpose and mission, alongside scientific research, is the education of new generations of experts in the field of the Croatian language, literature, and culture. This is done through undergraduate and graduate programs which can be combined with other double major study programs at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.
The undergraduate double-major study program in Croatian language and literature covers all the basic contents in the field of linguistics and literature. It enables students to develop existing and adopt new competencies in Croatian studies. Upon completion of this undergraduate program, the academic title of Bachelor of Croatian language and literature is received. Bachelors of Croatian language and literature can work in cultural and administrative institutions, publishing, media, tourism, as well as in projects and workplaces in which knowledge of Croatian language, literature, and culture is required. The Croatian language and literature study program at the undergraduate level is comparable with similar Croatian studies at universities in the Republic of Croatia which enables unimpeded student mobility.
The Croatian language and literature study program at the graduate level is structured in two ways. Students can choose teacher education or cultural program. Upon completion of the teacher education program, a student can work as a teacher in elementary or high school. Those students who have completed the cultural program can, for example, work as editors on radio or television, in scientific and professional journals, etc. Upon completion of the graduate study program, the academic title Master of education of Croatian language and literature (mag. educ. philol. croat) is acquired by those who have attended the teacher education program or Master of Croatian Language and Literature (mag. philol. croat.) for the cultural program.
