The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with one of the basic methods of interpretation in the history of art that searches for the former meaning, but also the current meaning of a work of art by using all available pictorial or written sources. Emphasis is placed on examples of fine art from the late Middle Ages and early modern times, as well as on the recognition of basic themes and iconographic types that marked European art.
