The aim of the course is to gain insight into the entire history of German literature in the European context; to introduce students to the problems of literary periods and movements as well as the most important German literary authors and their works.

1. - to evaluate the entire history of German literature from the beginning to the present
2. - to distinguish and define the characteristics of literary works created in certain literary periods and movements
3. - identify problems of the periodization of literature
4. - discuss the literary work of the most significant authors of the German literature
5. - to judge the artistic and literary value of certain literary works
6. - discuss the literary periods and and movements of German literature in the European context
