Description:
Course objectives: To introduce students to developmental psychology, basic theoretical and empirical approaches and methodological features of developmental research. To introduce students to the specific areas of development in childhood (physical, cognitive, emotional and moral) and application of knowledge in practical work with early and pre-school aged children.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. define basic issues in developmental psychology
2. name and explain types of developmental research
3. compare different approaches to developmental researches
4. draft one developmental research
5. analyse different theoretical approaches in developmental psychology
6. explain contribution of main authors in the area of developmental psychology (Hall, Gesell, Piaget, Erikson, Bandura, Kohlberg)
7. name the main characteristics of different phases of cognitive development
8. associate main characteristics of cognitive development in childhood with aspects learning
9. analyse moral development in the context of cognitivist models, ethology and theories of learning
